Here's a journal update from Jacque Feldman, a Yale University student who joined us in the Eastern Cape as part of a Clowns Without Borders and Reach Out South Africa collaboration!

It is already morning in this hemisphere, we are changing money at the Johannesburg airport, and our trip leader is trying to get us to take off

Update from Ethiopia - February 28, 2010

IMG_2092_2.jpg

It is an early dreary gray morning in Addis Ababa in which Sibongile and I are sitting at the airport awaiting our flight back to Johannesburg. After 10-days of performing shows and teaching workshops with Worldwide Orphans (WWO) the weather is mirroring our emotions - damp yet hopeful. We have just said a sad goodbye to Selena who joined us from CWB-USA.

CWBSA has established successful links with Woza Moya and has followed their support by organising a show to be done in schools within the area. The shows held at its core the intentions to create joy, laughter and happiness. It also aimed to promote activities that inspire creativity and action.

Capacity Building in Ingwavuma from Sibongile Tsoanyane

Oh! It’s Springtime, again at Ingwavuma known for being next to the borders of Swaziland and Mozambique. This time the weather is very hot as if it’s summer time as I’m wondering how is it going to be like in summer. I have been training 6 staff members from Ingwavuma Orphan Care and 2 artists from Clowns Without Borders South Africa .This week they started to facilitate the workshops with children and guardians. They are leading the workshops and I am assisting whenever they needed assistance. It’s exciting to see other people doing what you have been teaching them, seeing them working together, planning on what are they going to teach on the day.

Update from Swaziland

Swaziland - July 15, 2009
We have recently completed an epic 2-week project in Swaziland this past month. And I do not use the word "epic" lightly due to the scope and size of our work!

For 14 days in the grueling hot sun, Gavin Stockden has joined Gwen Rooker and Elisa Lane from the United States performing and teaching workshops in both Kenya and Southern Sudan (Juba and Aweil).

The day after we showed up in Malealea was a national holiday and we got the chance to join the festivities at the neighboring school. It was overwhelming to see the energy and musicality these wonderful people have. With the breathtaking scenery surrounding us, the day seemed magical.
