In collaboration with our sister chapters, Sweden and Belgium, Clowns Without Borders South Africa artist and director, Jamie McLaren Lachman, will be going to Lebanon to work with Palestinian refugees.
We will be in Beirut and the southern Palestinian refugee camps from February 21st to March 2nd.
Along with Belgium artist, Esther Haddad, Jamie will be providing pedagogical training to youth artists who are part of a CWB Sweden project funded by SIDA. The youth have created a social circus group, Circuna (www.circuna.org), that works in the refugee camps with children using circus as a means for empowerment, relief, and to provide life skills. We will also perform in the camps for children who have been affected by the ongoing violent conflict in Lebanon.
CWBSA is fortunate to be joined by Belgian photographer, Ellen van den Bouwhuysen, who will be documenting the trip. She is the one that took this amazing photo of Esther and Jamie in KwaZulu-Natal in 2005.
Stay tuned for updates from the field!
